Description

Special edition. Created with photographer and author Ngoc Minh Ngo, Roses in the Garden is a 21st-century take on the medieval European tradition of scattering flowers on the table, a decorative flourish that also helped to mask the musty air of castles and manor houses. Each easy-to-clean woven placemat in the set of four features a unique image from Ngo's latest book, Roses in the Garden (Rizzoli), a dazzling tour of the beauty and history of the rose through her stunning photography of famous gardens around the world. Pictured on this special edition are a selection of old heritage roses, modern hybrid tea roses, and English shrub roses from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Cleaning

  • Cleaning is easy. Simply wipe the mat with soap and water, and allow to air dry.
  • Mats with visible food residue can be sprayed with soapy water, scrubbed with a soft-bristle brush, or soaked in soapy water and then rinsed.
  • Do not clean with alcohol-based cleaning agents, as they can break down TerraStrand yarns over time.
  • Citrus-based cleaning agents are also not recommended, as they can cause discoloration.
  • Do not wash in dishwasher or washing machine. Do not iron or dry with heat. A high-temperature sanitizer may be used up to once per week.

Storage

  • Store Chilewich placemats flat.
  • Table runners may be rolled.
  • Do not store wet or allow mats to fold or crease.
  • In case of creasing, steam using a handheld garment steamer on the lowest heat setting.

Chilewich was born in 2000 out of designer Sandy Chilewich’s passion for reimagining overlooked materials and underused processes to transform the way people around the world set their tables. In designing textiles that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable, versatile, and easy to wipe clean, we offer products that address a key element of sustainability: longevity. Every Chilewich product is made to endure decades of daily use and to look good doing it, while conserving the resources required by machine washing and product replacement.

Sustainability is also the quest for better, and we’re committed to continuing to make choices that are better for people and the planet. From raw materials to finished goods, design to production, we recognize that this is an evolution that encompasses manufacturers, consumers, and policymakers in a complex interplay of economics, engineering, and chemistry.
