Designed for Everyday Living

Chilewich rugs are flat-woven vinyl rugs made in the USA from our TerraStrand yarns, with a skid-proof backing that keeps them in place. Designed in our New York City studio, they combine the look of a woven textile with the performance of an indoor/outdoor rug: they're easy to clean, resist staining and fading, and stand up to kitchens, entryways, hallways, dining rooms, and covered outdoor spaces.

Unlike machine-washable rugs, Chilewich rugs clean with a quick vacuum, wipe, or rinse, so there's no need to lift them off the floor. Choose from signature weaves like Basketweave, Bouclé, and Sampler, collaborations like our William Morris rugs made with The Met, or create a custom size for your space.

FAQs

What makes Chilewich rugs different?

Chilewich rugs are flat-woven in the USA from our TerraStrand yarns, with a skid-proof backing. They're built for real life: easy to clean, resistant to staining and fading, and durable enough for kitchens, entryways, and outdoor spaces while still looking like a designed piece.

Where should I put a Chilewich rug?

Almost anywhere: entryways and hallways, dining areas, kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms, and outdoor spaces. They're especially popular in high-traffic or spill-prone spots like in front of the kitchen sink, under the dining table, and in mudrooms.

What are the best selling rug styles and colors?

Favorites include Basketweave in Latte and Carbon, Mini Basketweave in Linen and Dark Walnut, Sampler in Wheat, Canopy in Honey, Bouclé in Natural and Noir, and our William Morris rugs that are made with The Met. Shop our most popular rugs here.

What's the difference between a woven rug, Shag mat and Entry mat?

Woven rugs are flat-woven with a low profile and skid-proof backing, making them well suited to kitchens, dining rooms, and hallways. Shag mats are tufted with looped TerraStrand® yarns bonded to a waterproof vinyl base for a plush, quick-drying surface ideal for bathrooms and pool areas. Entry mats are made in the USA from recycled plastic bottles and pair the richly textured look of natural fibers with a sturdy, non-slip backing. Quick to dry and easy to maintain, they resist shedding, fading, stains, moisture damage, and mold—making them a practical choice for the door.

Are Chilewich rugs made for indoor/outdoor use?

Yes, Chilewich rugs can be used indoors and out, from the kitchen to a covered porch or patio.

How do I know the best size to purchase?

Start with the room. Under a dining table, choose a rug that extends at least 24 inches beyond the table on every side so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. In a kitchen or hallway, a runner should leave a few inches of floor showing on each side. Need something specific? We also make custom size.

How do I clean a Chilewich rug?

Vacuum regularly and wipe spills with mild soap and water. Outdoors, you can hose the rug down and let it air dry fully before placing it back down.

Can I order a custom size rug?

Yes. Choose your weave, color, and size and we'll do the rest. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing. All custom rugs are final sale.

Do I need a rug pad?

Chilewich rugs have a skid-proof backing, so a rug pad typically isn't needed. Avoid placing rugs on rubber-backed pads or rubber or synthetic decking, which can cause discoloration.

Are Chilewich rugs good for kitchens?

Yes. Their low profile, non-slip backing, and wipe-clean surface make them a popular choice in front of the sink and stove and as a kitchen runner.

Are Chilewich rugs made in the USA?

Yes, our woven rugs are made in the United States. They are made in our Chatsworth, Georgia facility and designed in our New York City studio.

Are Chilewich rugs good for homes with pets and kids?

Yes. Chilewich rugs are great for homes with children and pets. Their wipe-clean, stain-resistant surface makes accidents and spills easy to handle, and the flat weave won't trap hair the way a high-pile rug can.
