Chilewich was born in 2000 out of designer Sandy Chilewich’s passion for reimagining overlooked materials and underused processes to transform the way people around the world set their tables. In designing textiles that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable, versatile, and easy to wipe clean, we offer products that address a key element of sustainability: longevity. Every Chilewich product is made to endure decades of daily use and to look good doing it, while conserving the resources required by machine washing and product replacement.
Sustainability is also the quest for better, and we’re committed to continuing to make choices that are better for people and the planet. From raw materials to finished goods, design to production, we recognize that this is an evolution that encompasses manufacturers, consumers, and policymakers in a complex interplay of economics, engineering, and chemistry.

"Perfect placemats for my round table. It’s hard to find placemats large enough to accommodate a charger and silverware so the utensils don’t sit on the good wood table. These are the ones! Love the simple woven texture - easy care but def not plasticky-looking. Can dress up or down depending on your function. The clay color is a very pretty, toned-down soft peachy color. Chilewich woven placemats and table runners are made with TerraStrand, our phthalate-free vinyl yarn. Materials vary by style; check the product details for the specific materials.
Wipe it with soap and water using a soft sponge or cloth, then air-dry. For dried-on food, spray with soapy water and use a soft-bristle brush, or soak it briefly and rinse. For printed and pressed styles, use a soft sponge or cloth only. Avoid rough sponges and brushes on molded styles like Dahlia, as they can remove the metallic top layer. To sanitize pressed styles, use hydrogen peroxide rather than bleach.
No. Do not machine-wash or put them in the dishwasher. Do not iron or dry them with heat.
Clean spills promptly, especially tea, coffee, tomato or chili sauce, turmeric, and saffron. Our care guide allows diluted bleach for stains on woven mats: 1 part bleach to 10 parts water for new or light stains, or 1:1 for set-in stains. Apply to the affected area, let it dry overnight, then rinse and scrub.
